  1. Me 262 ROCKET TRAINING

  4. the R4M air-to-air rocket:

  6. "Toward the end of the war, a few of
  7. our Me 262s had this air-to-air rocket,
  8. the R4M.  We attacked the bombers every
  9. time from behind with the R4M, and the
  10. bombers pulled up immediately when they
  11. saw the detonation of the rocket, and
  12. their very close formation spread out a
  13. little bit.  I was flying with General
  14. Galland on one attack, and one of his
  15. rockets hit a wing of a bomber and the
  16. rest of the aircraft landed on the wing
  17. of another bomber and so two bombers
  18. were destroyed by one rocket.  It was
  19. very effective, but you had to shoot it
  20. only in one shot, and we had only a few
  21. of them."

  23.                     YOUR MISSION
  24.  
  25. Your Me 262 is lined up with a bomber 
  26. formation flying directly in front of
  27. you.  Use a combination of rockets and
  28. cannons to down the bombers.  Practice 
  29. making attack runs from different 
  30. distances and angles.  The optimal angle 
  31. for rocket attacks is directly astern, 
  32. with no deflection.  Aim slightly above
  33. your target, as the trajectory of the
  34. rockets causes them to fall during their
  35. flight.  Remember to arm the rockets 
  36. before trying to fire them.

  38. Your Me 262 has unlimited ammunition,
  39. including rockets.
